Armando Bertone, Ph.D.

A clinical neuropsychologist (licensed), Dr. Bertone is an Associate Professor and faculty member in both the School/Applied Child Psychology and Human Development programs in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University. As director of the Perceptual Neuroscience Lab for Autism and Development (PNLab), he has made seminal contributions toward understanding the perceptual and cognitive strengths and challenges of autistic persons, and how they differ from those of other types of neurodivergences (e.g., ADHD, intellectual disability, specific learning disorders, etc.).

Motivated by the needs of educators and administrators at schools serving learners with exceptionalities, Dr Bertone has applied his research findings toward validating accessible and adaptable visuo-cognitive attention assessment and intervention platforms tailored for neurodivergent learners, focusing on their sensory and cognitive strengths. His large-scale, school-based studies have fostered fruitful collaborations with administrators at Summit School in Montreal, Canada, which specializes in supporting children with exceptionalities. In 2016, Dr. Bertone founded and currently directs the Summit Centre for Education, Research, and Training (SCERT). This facility operates within Summit School as a unique center for learning, teaching, and research, bringing together experts from various fields relevant to the education and management of neurodivergent learners. Dr Bertone has published over 70 manuscripts in high-impact journals, presented more than 250 works at national / international conferences, and has delivered over 40 public lectures and research colloquia.  His interdisciplinary research has received support from all three tri-council agencies, as well as provincial (FRQ-S) and private-sector funding organizations. AB has been recognized as a Research Scholar by Fonds de recherche Québec – Santé and has been re-appointment as a William Dawson Scholar at McGill University (2021-present).
